Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 12 Steps to Organize Your Project   Leave a comment

“Sometimes if you’re not sure about something you just have to jump off the bridge and grow your wings on the way down.” – Danielle Steel

Today, I created a list of my top seven goals (who needs to wait until the New Year?); things I’ve been thinking about, but haven’t been acting on – at least not with an organized plan! Among my top three goals is publishing my next book, which will include 365 Tip ‘N Tools (one for each day of the year) on topics such as joy, health, safety, love, and belonging, among others. My mission is to inspire my readers to reconnect to their inner being, enhance their sense of happiness, and provide support to help them take consistent actions to fulfill their goals and dreams. The book will be based on more than 25 years of experience working with clients in the coaching, healing, and training fields.

I chose my writing project as the first among my seven goals to organize. Next, I created a plan to bridge the gap between where I am am now (just starting) and a date I deemed realistic for publishing my book. I then broke the project down into 12 steps I need to take, along with timelines, in order to reach my publication date. The process I just outlined helped me to organize and visualize my project in an orderly and doable way.

It’s easy to procrastinate on the things we would like to do, or experience, until we have a plan and take committed action. And when we do, we build our confidence, and feel energized and hopeful.

THIS WEEK’S TNT: 12 Steps to Organize Your Project

Step 1: Brainstorm a list of one to seven goals you would like to achieve, but haven’t yet acted on, or created a plan to attain it.

Step 2: From the list of goals you brainstormed, choose one that most energizes and excites you.

***Step 3: Decide on a realistic date for accomplishing it.***

Step 4: “Bridge the gap,” by breaking your goal down into manageable and achievable steps you know you can accomplish.

Stretch yourself, but make the steps attainable.

For instance, if you want to write a book, one step might be researching publishers who publish the type of content you wish to write about.

Step 5: Create realistic timelines for completing each of the steps you outlined above, in order to reach your target date.

Step 6: See if the date for completing your project lines up with your timelines, or if you need to adjust it.

For instance, using the example of publishing a book, if your target date for publication is February 30, 2019, but it will take you until April 1, 2019 to complete all of the steps in your plan, adjust your target date accordingly.

If you like, schedule each step into your calendar to remind you of your actions, and reinforce your timelines.

Step 7:  Print out your action plan and place it where you can see it.

Step 8: Create a plan to address resistance, when and if it should occur.

For instance, you can talk with a supportive friend, join a writer’s group (if writing is your goal), or hire a coach or other professional who can help you through the process.

You can also reflect on what’s getting in the way, and how you can address it.

Step 9: Follow-through on the steps you have committed to.

Step 10: If you find yourself struggling, imagine yourself being support, and carried along by the process.

Step 11: Acknowledge each step you complete and celebrate your successes!

For instance, as you complete each piece of your plan, stop and savor the feelings of satisfaction, joy, and achievement.

Step 12: Use the same process to complete your other projects when you’re ready!

As long as you keep moving forward, you’re guaranteed to cross the bridge!

***Note: You can also write your timelines first, and then establish your projected completion date.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) How To Calm The Mind and Relieve Overthinking   2 comments

Preamble

Does overthinking complicate your life or lead you astray? This week’s TNT will help get you on track!

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) How To Calm The  Mind and Relieve Overthinking

“Before enlightenment chop wood, carry water.

After enlightenment chop wood, carry water.” – Zen Proverb

I was talking with a friend today – we were obsessing about our fears (yes, I have them, too!), phobias and how much there is to do. Then, it dawned on me: When life seems complicated, and feels unmanageable, it may stem from overthinking!

It’s essential to have visions and goals and timelines in which to achieve them. They give our lives a sense of meaning and purpose and are important to our health and well-being. However, no matter how far we’ve come, fear and doubt can get in the way and lead to overthinking. (Can you relate?)

When your head is spinning, and you’re trying to figure things out, it’s time to stop and slow down the momentum. Go for a walk. Have a cup of tea. Detach and let the feelings settle. It will help you calm your mind, redirect your thoughts, and relieve your overthinking. You will regain your composure, feel refreshed and in the long run, be more efficient.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) Celebrate Your Success   Leave a comment

This week marked my fifth anniversary as a Reconnective Healing Practitioner. While the work has made a huge difference in my life, and in the lives of many of my clients, I would have completely overlooked the date had I not received email from colleagues and clients congratulating me.

It’s easy to neglect our own successes. We may shrug them off or take them for granted and, in doing so, miss out on opportunities to acknowlege the work and accomplishments we have achieved.

Take a moment to celebrate your successes. Beginning an exercise program, changing your diet, cleaning a room or having more fun are all worthy of your time and attention. Soak in the good feelings and acknowledge yourself for a job well done. It will elevate your mood, bolster your confidence and, like medicine, improve your immune system.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) Get Organized and Kiss Your Stress Goodbye   Leave a comment

Preamble

Big projects (or those that stretch our comfort zones) can cause stress, slow us down and make realizing our dreams and goals feel cumbersome. This week’s TNT provides a formula to help you organize your project and get moving again.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Get Organized and Kiss Your Stress Goodbye

“The key to a successful to-do list lies in three little words: “simple,” “realistic,” and “accessible.” – Bob Adams

Enlarging our comfort zones, embarking on new projects, or making changes of any size can feel overwhelming and scary. Our minds may run amok and give us all sorts of reasons for maintaining the status quo. But if we pay attention we will notice that underneath the surface is a rumbling, ever begging us to fulfill our dreams and goals.

A key to breaking down the barriers that keep us stuck is chunking down our projects into small and manageable pieces. The following 7-steps will serve to guide you:

 1.  Write the project you wish to accomplish on a piece of paper. (It’s amazing how this small step can relieve the burden of carrying it in your head!)

2.  Make a list of everything that needs to happen in order to succeed. For instance, clearing a room of clutter may require that you sort through papers, donate books, and discard broken items.

3.  Prioritize your list in order of importance.

4.  Create a target date in which to complete each piece of the project. Make sure your timeline is realistic. Don’t stress yourself by taking on more than you can reasonably accomplish.

5.  Don’t focus on your “failures.”  Use them as learning opportunities. Be gentle with yourself; set smaller goals; seek support, if needed and; make a commitment to begin again.

6.  Take breaks, as needed. (Very important! Honoring your body/mind will help you create momentum and achieve success more consistently than plowing through.)

7.  Celebrate your successes. Have lunch with a friend or treat yourself to something special. Honor yourself in whatever way most pleases you.

Congratulations on a job well done!

Message from the Divine:   Leave a comment

Preamble

Do you have expectations of what you should do, be or accomplish? Do they bring you a sense of lightness and joy or create anxiety and stress?

Putting undue pressure on ourselves wreaks havoc on our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

This month’s Message*** is taken from a recent journal entry. I hope you find it helpful

Message from the Divine: Letting Go of Pressure

Pressure does not lead to the answers you seek.
Surrender does.

Trying to force solutions is like attempting to give birth to a baby
Before its time is due.

The answers you seek are right where you are
When you quiet the mind and open your heart to listen.

One moment. One heart beat at a time.

Release your “shoulds” and “must do’s.”
Take a walk or go for a bike ride instead.

Free your mind from thoughts that cloud it
From hearing your inner wisdom.

Lay down the fears that keep you stuck
In a life you no longer desire.

Focus on what brings you joy.

Allow the dreams of your heart to become clear
And guide you to a life of freedom

You deserve the best –
Let yourself receive it.

With Love,

Theresa

Memorial Day: Creating Future Memories   Leave a comment

Preamble

This weekend, those of us in the U.S. are celebrating Memorial Day; a federal holiday established to pay homage to those who have died serving in the country’s armed forces. I dare to take it a step further, and ask that we view the holiday from another vantage point: let us remember all of our loved ones and the memories that we have and hold dear, and the memories we are in the process of creating.

If you would like a little daily inspiration, visit my Facebook page, where you’ll find tips and tools, inspirational messages, educational articles, and more. (Tip: Click “Like” to receive the posts.)  http://goo.gl/wiQofc

Memorial Day: Creating Future Memories

“When you look back over your life, you should remember not when you failed, not when you went through a divorce, not when your business went down, not when you lost that loved one, not when the boss did you wrong. That’s remembering what you’re supposed to forget…start remembering your successes, your victories, and the times you’ve overcome – that will you to step into new levels of favor.” – Joel Osteen

Our memories can serve us well or can create a mental obstacle course as we recall our past experiences and all of the reasons we can’t have or succeed at what we wish to do.

Remembering our failures (real or imagined) keeps us stuck and can lead to a lifetime of dissatisfaction and depression. Our “failures” don’t define us, they simply remind us that we need to try again or find another strategy that will help us accomplish what we desire to achieve. It all starts with a decision to say “yes” to what we want and the commitment to follow through on the decisions that we make, and in doing so, we are setting a course to create a future we will relish.  Like building muscle, working out once or twice won’t yield results, but a regular exercise program will strengthen and tone your body and have you looking and feeling great. The same holds true for our goals. We must show up and participate in making our dreams come true. The actions you take today will create new memories to inspire you.

Let the past be gone and create future memories based on the successes you achieve today. They can be as simple as “I got out of bed!” “I made that phone call I’ve been avoiding,” or “I got 15-minutes of exercise in today.” Get a journal. Write your accomplishments down. Put them on Post Its and carry them around! Use them to help you remember your triumphs and focus on those instead.

One last tip: if you have a hard time moving forward on your own, as we often do, get support from a friend, a professional, a 12-Step program, a coach, your physician, and the people in your network.

The most important thing is letting go of the memories and thoughts that hold you back from living a life you love. Recall the memories that inspire and affirm you and begin creating new memories based on the actions and decisions you make today.

Here’s to Happy Memories!

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts. Just click on the “Leave a Comment” tab at the top of the page to leave your comments.

The “Magic” of Ritual   Leave a comment

Preamble

Rituals have been associated with magic and the occult, but for me, a ritual is something that helps me connect to my heart’s desires and deeper self. Like lighting candles and taking a bath, or going to the altar to get married, a ritual is a ceremony that strengthens our commitment to our goals and, with future actions, assists us in calling them into being.

From now until January 31st,  it is my pleasure to offer you a unique one-time gift that will help you create a ritual that will strengthen your commitment to your goals.

Check it out my Special Announcements Section below.

The “Magic” of Rituals

“For me starting the day without a pot of tea would be a day forever out of kilter.”
– Bill Drummond

I love ritual and enjoy starting each year with one I created many years ago, upon discovery the Angel Cards,  created by Joy Drake and Kathy Tyler who developed them as a feature in the Game of Transformation when they were living at Findhorn, Scotland.

As I do with my coaching clients, I begin  my ritual by setting the mood: unplugging the phone, lighting candles and playing soft soothing music in the background. I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, get centered, and connect to my inner guidance. I then gently review last year’s goals, what I have accomplished, what I have learned, what I am grateful for, and what, if any goals, I want to renew in the new year. When ready, I continue the journey by contemplating what I would like to create in the coming year.  I then write them down as goals in my journal. In addition to my personal and professional goals, I include qualities or ways of being I would like to develop or improve, such as generosity, kindness and patience.

My favorite part of the ritual comes toward the end, when I take out my Angel Cards, spread them out on the table in front of me, close my eyes and ask guidance for the coming year. I scan the cards with my right hand, and when I feel ready,  I choose. The cards I pick are always perfect, and sometimes I will choose more than one Angel, when they stick together. For instance, this year I choose two (or rather, they choose me!): the Angels of Sisterhood/Brotherhood and the Angel of Courage.

As I work on my goals in the new year, the Angels of Sisterhood / Brotherhood and Courage are a perfect match. They help me fine tune my awareness and remind me to stretch, as opportunities for greater connection and change present themselves.

Don’t have a set of Angel Cards, but would like to have an Angel support you in the coming year?

See my special one-time offer in the Announcements Section below.

As always, I would love to hear your comments.

With love, Theresa
