Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 12 Steps to Organize Your Project   Leave a comment

“Sometimes if you’re not sure about something you just have to jump off the bridge and grow your wings on the way down.” – Danielle Steel

Today, I created a list of my top seven goals (who needs to wait until the New Year?); things I’ve been thinking about, but haven’t been acting on – at least not with an organized plan! Among my top three goals is publishing my next book, which will include 365 Tip ‘N Tools (one for each day of the year) on topics such as joy, health, safety, love, and belonging, among others. My mission is to inspire my readers to reconnect to their inner being, enhance their sense of happiness, and provide support to help them take consistent actions to fulfill their goals and dreams. The book will be based on more than 25 years of experience working with clients in the coaching, healing, and training fields.

I chose my writing project as the first among my seven goals to organize. Next, I created a plan to bridge the gap between where I am am now (just starting) and a date I deemed realistic for publishing my book. I then broke the project down into 12 steps I need to take, along with timelines, in order to reach my publication date. The process I just outlined helped me to organize and visualize my project in an orderly and doable way.

It’s easy to procrastinate on the things we would like to do, or experience, until we have a plan and take committed action. And when we do, we build our confidence, and feel energized and hopeful.

THIS WEEK’S TNT: 12 Steps to Organize Your Project

Step 1: Brainstorm a list of one to seven goals you would like to achieve, but haven’t yet acted on, or created a plan to attain it.

Step 2: From the list of goals you brainstormed, choose one that most energizes and excites you.

***Step 3: Decide on a realistic date for accomplishing it.***

Step 4: “Bridge the gap,” by breaking your goal down into manageable and achievable steps you know you can accomplish.

Stretch yourself, but make the steps attainable.

For instance, if you want to write a book, one step might be researching publishers who publish the type of content you wish to write about.

Step 5: Create realistic timelines for completing each of the steps you outlined above, in order to reach your target date.

Step 6: See if the date for completing your project lines up with your timelines, or if you need to adjust it.

For instance, using the example of publishing a book, if your target date for publication is February 30, 2019, but it will take you until April 1, 2019 to complete all of the steps in your plan, adjust your target date accordingly.

If you like, schedule each step into your calendar to remind you of your actions, and reinforce your timelines.

Step 7:  Print out your action plan and place it where you can see it.

Step 8: Create a plan to address resistance, when and if it should occur.

For instance, you can talk with a supportive friend, join a writer’s group (if writing is your goal), or hire a coach or other professional who can help you through the process.

You can also reflect on what’s getting in the way, and how you can address it.

Step 9: Follow-through on the steps you have committed to.

Step 10: If you find yourself struggling, imagine yourself being support, and carried along by the process.

Step 11: Acknowledge each step you complete and celebrate your successes!

For instance, as you complete each piece of your plan, stop and savor the feelings of satisfaction, joy, and achievement.

Step 12: Use the same process to complete your other projects when you’re ready!

As long as you keep moving forward, you’re guaranteed to cross the bridge!

***Note: You can also write your timelines first, and then establish your projected completion date.

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you’re heading.” – Lao Tzu

Change can be both exhilarating and scary. Whether we wish to change careers, sell or purchase a home, move to a new city or country, begin or end a relationship, or do anything that’s new, the future is unknown and can prompt feelings of fear and insecurity.

A few months ago, I had a chat with an American woman who has been living in Trieste for 15 years or so. She works for an American support organization, and has watched people who have relocated from abroad come and go. I had been feeling a bit lonely the day I saw her, and was longing for connections on a deeper, more personal level. She said I was at a crisis point, wondering if I would ever learn the language, make closer friends, establish a clientele, learn the subtleties between cultures, etc. I felt like she was a mindreader and was inside of my head! The thing that helped me most was when she said that what I was feeling was common and the point at which most people left and returned home. Wow. Although I had no intention of moving,  it made perfect sense and gave me a new perspective.

The challenges that come with change are true with any endeavor. The reptilian part of our brains are hard-wired to keep us safe, so we’re bound to question our decisions, and wonder if we’re on the right path when feelings of doubt and insecurity rear their frightening heads. Our ancestors were on alert for their physical safety, and had to fight or flee when their environment was threatened.  In modern times, the “old” brain kicks in when it perceives an emotional threat, and can stop us in our tracks.

I still feel lonely and insecure from time to time, however, I remind myself that what I’m feeling is natural; take a breath; reach out for support, when needed; and move on.

Fear is a common occurrence and something we are bound to experience when we stretch our comfort zones and embark on something new. The key is recognizing where the fear is stemming from, and tapping in to our Inner Strength and the wisdom of our guts.

What change have you been wanting to make, but have been afraid of doing so?

On a scale of “1” to “10,” with “1” Not At All Important and “10” Extremely Important, how important is the change you wish to make?

What’s holding you back?

Notice the feelings that emerge. Are you scared, excited, happy, terrified?

Are the thoughts that you’re thinking true and serving you? Or are they assumptions based on beliefs that are trying to keep you safe?

Take a breath and call on your Inner Wisdom.

What feels right for you to do?

Ask your gut, not your head!

What brings a feeling of deep peace and inner contentment?

Your gut will serve to guide you.

With love, Theresa

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 5 Ways to Recognize Your Ego and Regain Your Balance. Plus, Special Offer   Leave a comment

Do you suffer from fear and anxiety? Or have a hard time getting to sleep at night because you’re too busy worrying? Fear, anxiety and worry are interconnected and share a common thread. In this week’s TNT, you will learn about a spiritual principle to calm your mind and regain your peace and balance. If you would like support on your journey, scroll down to learn about a special savings on a 90-minute Discovery Coaching session.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 5 Ways to Recognize Your Ego and Regain Your Balance

“There is a healer in you, rooted in and always connected to your spirit. To know this healer and make it work in your life you must (once again) get your ego out of the way.” – Wayne W. Dyer

The ego can be persnickety. Masking itself as wisdom, truth, and intelligence, it often pulls us off our path and creates unnecessary anxiety. While it’s important to make informed decisions, holding ourselves back from the changes we wish to make is another story!

As you read the list below, make note of the ones you relate to:

  1. Do you find yourself worrying about the future?
  2. Have difficulty making decisions because you’re afraid of making a mistake?
  3. Would like to make a change in your personal or professional life, but procrastinate?
  4. Do you tell yourself you don’t have the skills or resources to pursue your goals and dreams?
  5. Do you wake up in the morning feeling depressed or dreading the day?

If you checked one or more of the above, your ego is getting in the way!

Fear, worry, stress, and other low frequency emotions, zap our energy, affect our health, and are rooted in the ego – or what Buddhists call “the little mind” – which projects doom and gloom into the future and prevents us from living our best lives. And the more fearful we become, the more we condition our minds to believe our projections are real.

I had an epiphany yesterday when I realized I had been feeling overly anxious about a change I’ve been wanting to make. Then, as if the gods waved a magic wand while I was meditating, I recalled this beautiful principle from Dr. Mikao Usui, an enlightened master who discovered the healing art of Reiki.

The principle below is one of five spiritual precepts I learned during my First Degree Reiki Training in 1984, while living in Seattle.  I felt an immediate sense of relief as I repeated the words; the worry vanished, and I felt a deep sense of peace, joy, and happiness.  I was living in the present.

The precept serves as a guide for living. Open your heart and try it.

“Just for today, I will not worry.”

If you would like to feel more peaceful and create a brighter future, it would be my pleasure to work with you.

Your Divine Destiny   Leave a comment

One of my favorite books is “It’s Your Time,” by Joel Osteen. It is filled with inspirational messages that remind us that we all have a Divine Destiny waiting for us to say “Yes” and answer the Call.

Your Divine Destiny

“Too often we procrastinate or we allow negative thoughts and self-doubt to discourage us from chasing our dreams. As a result our gifts go undeveloped. Sometimes, we allow disappointments and failures to steal our confidence, and again, our treasures remain buried. Insecurities and low self-esteem can convince us that we have nothing special to offer.” Joel Osteen

We all have gifts, talents and abilities within us. Like the seed that contains all that it needs to grow into a beautiful tree, so do we have all that we need within us to give birth to our dreams. But just as the seed needs to be planted in the earth and requires the sun and rain to flourish, so we do need to plant our dreams in the fertile soil of our minds and say “yes” to the Call. Getting started is often the most difficult part of the journey.

It all begins with a desire, followed a the decision to say “yes” to something new, to change, to greater health, happiness and fulfillment – in whatever form resonates with you: a relationship, a new career, a new life path or direction. Then it’s up to you to follow the inspiration and guidance you receive. It may come in the form of a phone call, an offer, a book title, or an unexpected synchronicity. Stay open to the message and trust the guidance you receive. The more you act on it, the more will be revealed. And the more the seeds of your Divine Destiny will flourish.

If you need support in identifying your greatest dreams and goals, it is my pleasure to offer you an    Introductory Coaching Session. We will get acquainted, discuss your goals and see if might work well together.  To schedule your complimentary coaching session, email I look forward to hearing from you.

The Next Right Thing   Leave a comment

It is a beautiful day. The sun is out, the trees are blooming and there is a sense of anticipation in their air. Spring beckons us forward. She asks that we let go, trust in the moment, and prompts us to progress on our paths.  If feeling stuck, or uncertain about your direction, here are a few helpful steps to guide you.

The knowledge that you can handle anything that comes your way is the key to allowing yourself to take risks.”  – Susan Jeffers, Ph.D.

Do you suffer from procrastination? Indecision? Have a difficult time knowing what to do? How do it? Or when? If so, you’re not alone.

Decision-making can be stressful. Weighing options, and the uncertainty that comes from stepping into the unknown, can make us question our thinking, elicit feelings of anxiety and stop us in our tracks. Whether you are anticipating a new job, a new home, or who to hire for that project that’s been sitting on the back burner, there are several practices I have developed to build trust and move us forward.

See which of the following six practices resonate with you. Try one or try them all.  Whichever you choose, each one will help to free a block that’s been keeping you feeling stuck.

Six Practices to Build Trust and Spring You Forward

Practice #1: Let go. Release your expectations and painful outcomes from the past. Rather than obsess about what might happen, or what you did or did not do, choose to investigate instead.  Ask yourself: “What is there for me to learn from this situation?” I am a big fan of journaling and find the practice helpful. Perhaps you will, as well.

Practice #2:  When in doubt, don’t.  Forcing a solution before it’s time adds undo stress, and can prevent new ideas from surfacing. Try letting go instead. Refocus your attention and give yourself, and the situation you are deliberating, some space. Trust that the guidance, answers and direction you seek will present themselves. Likely, when least expected.

Practice #3:  Face your fears. If you’re worried about making a wrong choice, start by making small decisions.  Write your decisions down in a notepad or journal and begin taking the actions. Should you experience an unpleasant result, trust that you can handle it and re-evaluate the situation. Making small decisions will strengthen your ability and increase your confidence.

Practice #4: Reality check.  Make a list of all the good decisions you have made to date, and add to it daily.  Re-read as necessary.

Practice #5:   Do the next right thing. When feeling overwhelmed, rather than focusing on the big picture, chunk it down and do the next right thing. This will reduce your anxiety and develop a foundation of trust. Each step will lead to the next, and will eventually guide you exactly where you are meant to be.

Practice #6:  Appreciation. Acknowledge yourself for taking the actions and trying something new. Life is meant to be lived, one day at a time. Have fun and enjoy the journey!

As always, I would love to hear your comments!
