Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 12 Steps to Organize Your Project   Leave a comment

“Sometimes if you’re not sure about something you just have to jump off the bridge and grow your wings on the way down.” – Danielle Steel

Today, I created a list of my top seven goals (who needs to wait until the New Year?); things I’ve been thinking about, but haven’t been acting on – at least not with an organized plan! Among my top three goals is publishing my next book, which will include 365 Tip ‘N Tools (one for each day of the year) on topics such as joy, health, safety, love, and belonging, among others. My mission is to inspire my readers to reconnect to their inner being, enhance their sense of happiness, and provide support to help them take consistent actions to fulfill their goals and dreams. The book will be based on more than 25 years of experience working with clients in the coaching, healing, and training fields.

I chose my writing project as the first among my seven goals to organize. Next, I created a plan to bridge the gap between where I am am now (just starting) and a date I deemed realistic for publishing my book. I then broke the project down into 12 steps I need to take, along with timelines, in order to reach my publication date. The process I just outlined helped me to organize and visualize my project in an orderly and doable way.

It’s easy to procrastinate on the things we would like to do, or experience, until we have a plan and take committed action. And when we do, we build our confidence, and feel energized and hopeful.

THIS WEEK’S TNT: 12 Steps to Organize Your Project

Step 1: Brainstorm a list of one to seven goals you would like to achieve, but haven’t yet acted on, or created a plan to attain it.

Step 2: From the list of goals you brainstormed, choose one that most energizes and excites you.

***Step 3: Decide on a realistic date for accomplishing it.***

Step 4: “Bridge the gap,” by breaking your goal down into manageable and achievable steps you know you can accomplish.

Stretch yourself, but make the steps attainable.

For instance, if you want to write a book, one step might be researching publishers who publish the type of content you wish to write about.

Step 5: Create realistic timelines for completing each of the steps you outlined above, in order to reach your target date.

Step 6: See if the date for completing your project lines up with your timelines, or if you need to adjust it.

For instance, using the example of publishing a book, if your target date for publication is February 30, 2019, but it will take you until April 1, 2019 to complete all of the steps in your plan, adjust your target date accordingly.

If you like, schedule each step into your calendar to remind you of your actions, and reinforce your timelines.

Step 7:  Print out your action plan and place it where you can see it.

Step 8: Create a plan to address resistance, when and if it should occur.

For instance, you can talk with a supportive friend, join a writer’s group (if writing is your goal), or hire a coach or other professional who can help you through the process.

You can also reflect on what’s getting in the way, and how you can address it.

Step 9: Follow-through on the steps you have committed to.

Step 10: If you find yourself struggling, imagine yourself being support, and carried along by the process.

Step 11: Acknowledge each step you complete and celebrate your successes!

For instance, as you complete each piece of your plan, stop and savor the feelings of satisfaction, joy, and achievement.

Step 12: Use the same process to complete your other projects when you’re ready!

As long as you keep moving forward, you’re guaranteed to cross the bridge!

***Note: You can also write your timelines first, and then establish your projected completion date.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) Finding Your Destiny   Leave a comment

Finding your destiny is the ultimate solution in life, because when you’re living as your soul,  you experience unity and subsequent problems and planning for the future  disappear. – Penney Peirce

I love Penny’s quote.

Finding your destiny doesn’t have to be difficult. Nor does it have to be grandiose. It can be as simple as calling someone you’ve been thinking of, which leads to a new connection or information you’ve been looking for; or feeling inspired to begin or complete a project you’ve put on hold, which builds your confidence and culminates in your success; or heeding the impulse to take a new route home, which results in finding the house you’ve been searching for.

While situations like those cited above, may seem insignificant at the time,  each of them provides us with possibilities and blessings that allow our destinies to unfold.

When we follow the soul’s longing, we are led to the next right action, and our lives begin to flow.

This Week’s Tip:

As yourself:  “What wants to happen next?” When the answer aligns with your soul’s purpose, you will feel a sense of openness and peace, and if even for a moment,  any resistance you’ve been experiencing will cease.

If you would like help discovering your next step, it would be my pleasure to speak with you.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) Get Organized and Kiss Your Stress Goodbye   Leave a comment

Preamble

Big projects (or those that stretch our comfort zones) can cause stress, slow us down and make realizing our dreams and goals feel cumbersome. This week’s TNT provides a formula to help you organize your project and get moving again.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Get Organized and Kiss Your Stress Goodbye

“The key to a successful to-do list lies in three little words: “simple,” “realistic,” and “accessible.” – Bob Adams

Enlarging our comfort zones, embarking on new projects, or making changes of any size can feel overwhelming and scary. Our minds may run amok and give us all sorts of reasons for maintaining the status quo. But if we pay attention we will notice that underneath the surface is a rumbling, ever begging us to fulfill our dreams and goals.

A key to breaking down the barriers that keep us stuck is chunking down our projects into small and manageable pieces. The following 7-steps will serve to guide you:

 1.  Write the project you wish to accomplish on a piece of paper. (It’s amazing how this small step can relieve the burden of carrying it in your head!)

2.  Make a list of everything that needs to happen in order to succeed. For instance, clearing a room of clutter may require that you sort through papers, donate books, and discard broken items.

3.  Prioritize your list in order of importance.

4.  Create a target date in which to complete each piece of the project. Make sure your timeline is realistic. Don’t stress yourself by taking on more than you can reasonably accomplish.

5.  Don’t focus on your “failures.”  Use them as learning opportunities. Be gentle with yourself; set smaller goals; seek support, if needed and; make a commitment to begin again.

6.  Take breaks, as needed. (Very important! Honoring your body/mind will help you create momentum and achieve success more consistently than plowing through.)

7.  Celebrate your successes. Have lunch with a friend or treat yourself to something special. Honor yourself in whatever way most pleases you.

Congratulations on a job well done!

The Choice Of A Lifetime   Leave a comment

Preamble

“Too often we procrastinate or allow negative thoughts and self-doubt to discourage us from chasing our dreams. As a result, our gifts (and dreams) go undeveloped. Despite the discouragement…you have all that you need to achieve your destiny.” – Joel Osteen

Do you struggle with following through on a dream or have difficulty accomplishing your goals? The lyrics of a beautiful song entitled “Hold It Up To The Light,” may help to motivate and inspire you! The link to the lyrics and video are included at the end of the blog.

The Choice Of A Lifetime

I recently reached out to a friend who lives in Italy for a little moral support. You see, since my father died in 2009, one of my dreams has been to reconnect with my Italian roots and live, for a while, in Italy. My dream to relocate has been a source of both excitement and worry. Questions, such as:

  • Will I be happy?
  • Will I be able to earn an income and support myself financially?
  • Am I making the right choice?
  • Will I be lonely?

are a few that have created anxiety and caused hesitation. Doing research and testing out our options before making a major change are important parts of the process. However, when feelings of insecurity pop in, they can prevent us from moving forward and fulfilling our greatest dreams and desires.

Making big changes can be scary. So despite the dream, negative thoughts and fear can create resistance and stand in the way of achieving success. (Can you relate?)

The “size” of our dreams doesn’t matter. You may want to clear clutter from a closet, say “yes” to a new relationship, embark on a new career, or like me – relocate to another country – solo! I’ve been to Italy four times for extended visits and know the blessings, as well as the challenges. And when doubt and fear set in, it’s easy to wobble. The same holds true for all of us, regardless of our intentions.

With every change comes loss, as well as new opportunities, as we let go of what we know and open to the new. Change, however we perceive it, requires courage, commitment and support from those who cheer us on and want us to succeed.

Three of my greatest strategies for getting back on track are surrender, prayer and asking for help from those I know will support and encourage me. So, with the latter in mind, I reached out to my friend in Italy, knowing she would do just that. Among her replies were the lyrics and video to this beautiful song, entitled “Hold It Up The Light” by the Smalltown Poets, which inspired and empowered me.

May it do the same for you!

Ditch The Blues and Find Your Happy!   Leave a comment

 Preamble

It t has been a cold winter! As much as I want to deny it, the weather does affect the way I feel. Short days, grey skies and freezing temperatures make for a grumpy person! So last week, I decided to ditch the blues and find my happy!

DITCH THE BLUES AND FIND YOUR HAPPY!

Mind you, I’ve been in my pj’s by 7:00 p.m. for the last few weeks. Cold nights and icy streets. No way I’m going out! I even missed a dance!

I’ve never been a fan of winter, except, of course, when I was a kid and loved being out all day playing in the snow. What joy on days when schools were closed because of snowy weather! I ate my breakfast, bundled up, took my sleigh and happily spent the day gliding down the hill located up the block from where I lived, alongside friends and neighborhood kids. And there I’d stay, from morning till night, with occasional time-outs for lunch, a change of clothes and bathroom breaks. While wet from spending hours playing in the snow, I never minded, or even felt, the cold. What happened? As an adult, drop the temp below 40 degrees and I want to run for cover and hibernate! Can you relate?

So last week, I saw an ad for an improvisational theater class offered in downtown Manhattan. I felt guided to go, but didn’t click the RSVP button until a few days later.  I don’t recall, but I must have confirmed my reservation during one of those short spurts, inspired when the sun was out! However, the night of the workshop was another story. Dank and dark, a tug of war loomed between my need for fun and the voice inside my head reminding me how cold it was. The choice? My pj’s and bathrobe or boots and umbrella? I am happy to say, my intuition won out!  It was a great night, I had lots of fun and met some wonderful people. It was just what the doctor ordered.

How often are we tempted to cast aside our inner knowing and opt for second best? Or perhaps, not opt at all, leaving ourselves “out in the cold” regardless of the weather?

Our inner guidance system (or what I playfully call our IGS!) knows what’s best for us. All we need to do is get out of the way and listen.

I can’t say it’s been smooth sailing all the way. The days are still cold and I’m thankful my pj’s are handy!
