Reducing Holiday Stress: Say “No” to Get to “Yes,” Plus 2 Days Left   Leave a comment

Dear Friends,

Do you find it easy to say “Yes,” to others’ requests, but hard to say “Yes” to yourself?

Do you have a vision or intention for how to spend your holidays, but get hijacked by requests that you have a hard time saying “No” to?

The holidays can be a time of joy and cheer, as well as elicit feelings of stress and pressure.

While we may enjoy all that the holidays offer as we attend parties and other events; decorate our homes; shop for special gifts; visit friends and travel to see relatives and; make our favorite holiday recipes, among other festivities, we can also feel stretched and experience a strain on our time, energy, and financial reserves.

We may rationalize our decision to forgo our own needs, because we don’t want to offend our friends and family members, or risk disapproval from those we love or value.

But saying “No” provides an opportunity for others to grow, and care for themselves, and respect your personal needs.

Here are seven tips, and related questions, to help you gain clarity and take care of yourself this holiday season:

1. Take Inventory

– When are you saying “Yes” when you would rather say “No?”

– Are there particular circumstances or people who present a challenge?

2.  Be Mindful

– How does it feel in your body when you say “Yes” instead of “No?”

– Pay attention to stress and tension.

3.  Is what you fear will happen really true?

– How do you know?

– Is what you’re afraid of happening absolutely true?

– Regardless of what has happened in the past, this is a new moment.

– How can you take care of yourself if what you’re afraid of actually happens?

4.  What is saying “Yes” costing you?

– Are you tired and forfeiting rest?

– Do you have the financial resources to travel or buy expensive presents?

– Do you want to attend the events you’ve been invited to, or go out of obligation and later feel angry or resentful?

– What other costs might there be?

5.  Are you willing to pay the price?

– If you’re answer is “Yes,” do so with awareness. What will the payoffs be?

– If your answer is “No,” what could you do instead” (See #6 below)

6.  Saying “No” takes practice

– If you’re feeling nervous about expressing yourself, you may find it helpful to write down what it is you want to say.

– Then practice with a friend, a coach, or even in the mirror!

7.  Moving Forward

– What qualities do you need to grow inside yourself in order to feel comfortable setting healthy boundaries?

– Reflect on a time you were presented with a challenge and took care of yourself by setting a healthy boundary.

– Notice how the positive sensations feel in your body, and let the feelings flow through you.

– You can also think about how you felt – perhaps you felt a sense of confidence, or felt secure or empowered.

– Let the good feelings soak in as you stay with the experience for five to 20 seconds.

As always, I would love to hear from you.

With love,

Theresa

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Your Divine Destiny   Leave a comment

Preamble

A couple of weeks ago, I happened to catch a talk by Bishop T.D. Jakes on TV and was enthralled. I was inspired to learn more about his uplifting philosophy, so checked a few of his books out of the library. To date, the one that stands out among the rest is entitled “Destiny.”

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Your Divine Destiny

“Destiny has no expiration date.” – Bishop T.D. Jakes

Do you ever feel tired? Confused? Or like life has (or is) passing you by? Do you feel like you’ve missed your calling or don’t know what it is you are called to be or do?

The quote above proclaims the truth. It is a great reminder when tempted to think we have missed our calling or opportunities to make improvements in our lives.

We all question if we are on track, from time to time, or think we may be too old, not educated enough, etc. The truth is, as long as we are breathing, it’s never too late to change our lives and create a new direction.

If you have been feeling stressed, depressed or dissatisfied with some aspect as your life, I would like to encourage you. You don’t have to settle where you are. You may simply need to refuel and trust that your Divine Destiny awaits you when you are ready to say “yes,” and follow your calling.

This week, take a few minutes to sit quietly and ask yourself what wants to happen in your life. The answers will feel certain and right and you will experience a sense of quiet strength and knowingness within. Then follow the path before you.

With love,

Theresa

Divine Partnership and February’s Sweetheart Special   2 comments

We are all destined for greatness. Whether it is love, inspiration, an expression of a gift or talent, a new idea or a desire for a new career or relationship, there is a Source of Love within each of us that beckons us to become and to express more of who we are. Although our egos often take the forefront, tempting us to doubt our abilities and heart’s desires, there is a larger story, a Grand Design that longs to birth itself through us.

When our minds are filled with negative chatter, we can rest assured that the stories we are telling ourselves are nothing more than our “little mind’s” attempts to keep us feeling insignificant and small. Like a beautiful piece of silver that glistens when polished, when we clear our minds of chatter the sparkling truth within us is revealed.

Regardless of our years, we are always in the process of becoming – of dying to the old and giving birth to the new. But we must be willing to let go of the little mind’s need for control before we can awaken to the fullness of Life and Love that seeks to express Itself through us.

But how do we let go when the mind is so determined to hold on rather than support our innate design to grow?

The answer lies in strengthening our relationship with the Divine and recognizing that our fearful thoughts and insecurities are sure-fire signs that we are engaged with the chatter of the little mind.

To deepen your relationship with the Divine, try using one of the ideas outlined below, buy a book on meditation or develop a practice of your own.

1)  Find a statement of Truth and meditate upon it. Set a timer for 10 minutes and journal about your experience afterward.

One I often use and find extremely helpful is a lesson from A Course in Miracles entitled “God is my Source.”  As I meditate upon the lesson, the doubt and fears of my little mind diminish, making room for my Higher Mind to be revealed. Try it for a week and see what happens.

2)  If a formal meditation practice is not your cup of tea, take a walk in nature and commune with the trees, write, dance, sing, or read something inspirational that helps you to let go and connect to the Love within you.

As we focus our attention on partnering with The Divine, we begin to shift our vibration, and Life, in its infinite wisdom, responds.

As always, I would love to hear your comments.

Warmly,

Theresa
