A Thanksgiving Message   Leave a comment

November 27, 2019

I returned to Italy three weeks ago today after an amazing three-month trip to The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the U.S.

It’s been a dream of mine to travel since I was quite young. As a teenager, I visualized myself on the planes as I watched them take off from the runways at LaGuardia Airport in New York, and imagined the adventures I’d have.

Then, in my early 20’s my dreams went underground, as my priorities shifted to being a mom and raising my son.

But the dreams that are ours never cease to exist, and one day, after my son turned 18, my dream re-emerged, much to my surprise and delight.

We never know how our dreams will be realized. My three-month trip involved home stays, petsitting, the generosity of friends who so graciously opened their homes to me and a few reservations at BNB’s.

It’s not our job to know how our dreams will come about – but knowing what we want is essential.

Think back on the dreams you once had, but haven’t acted on. Perhaps as a child, a young adult, or even recently. Chances are, they are still alive in your heart.

What if you decided to pursue them? How would realizing them feel?

Opening to the unknown can conjure feelings of dis-ease and anxiety. But reaching for the stars brings us alive.

Breathe deeply and know that life is awaiting you.

Trust where it is leading.

And, if you’re like me, you will give thanks that you followed.

Courageous

If the only prayer you ever said in your whole life was ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” – Meister Eckhart

Thank you for giving me a place to share my thoughts and inspiration.

Wishing you a joy-filled holiday!

In loving service,

Theresa

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) I Am a Center of Peace   Leave a comment

Dear Friends,

Regardless of where we are in our lives, we’re likely to experience times of stress and need some gentle reminders to let go of our angst and re center ourselves.

I created a lovely affirmation as a handout for participants in my stress management workshops.  It’s short and sweet and hope you’ll find it helpful.

1.  Begin by taking a couple of  breaths, letting go of of any tension, as you bring yourself into the present moment.

2.  When you’re ready, take another breath and as you inhale silently repeat the affirmation, “I Am a Center of Peace.” Feel yourself relax as you breathe out any stress or painful sensations.

3.  Continue breathing, silently repeating the affirmation as you let go of any remaining tension. Notice the sense of peace that fills your body, as you feel the sensation to expand from head to toe.

4.  Repeat the process until you feel peaceful and relaxed.

5.  When you’re ready, take a cleansing breath, and return to the room, refreshed.

As an added benfit, you might like to print the photo below*** and hang it where you can see it, as reminder to stop and take a breath.

And for those of you living in the U.S., wishing you a fun and wonderful holiday weekend!

With love,
Theresa

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Intention or Attachment?   Leave a comment

Preamble

I’ve been reading a wonderful book, entitled  Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, by Dr. Joe Dispensa, a chiropractor who received post graduate training in neurology, neuroscince, brain function and cellular biology.

I first met Dr. Joe, as he’s affectionately known, in Munich, Germany, while attenting a conference on Reconnective Healing. Dr. Joe was one of the presenters. His quote about surrender popped out at me while riding the subway this morning. As always, it was such a great reminder! You can read it in the TNT below.

Theresa’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) Intention or Attachment?

“The universial intelligence that animates the existence of all things will both surprise and delight you.”

– Dr. Joe Dispensa

We are all familiar with setting intentions – the vision of what we wish our lives to be.

While studying to be a Practitioner at the Center of Spiritual Living, I learned the power of Affirmative Prayer and the process of visioning: We name what we want, we embody it on a feeling level, and release it. When we are in alignment with what we want, on a thinking and feeling level, this three-step process can work miracles in our lives. I’ve seen the power of affirmative prayer in my life, and in the lives of my clients and friends.

If you haven’t experienced the art of deliberate creation, you may not be on a vibrational level equipment to what you want and/or may be attached to the outcome of how you want the universe’s response to appear.  The later is a dream killer.

In his book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispensa has this to say:

“You can’t both surrender and try to control the outcome. Surrender requires that you give up what you think you know from your limited mind, especially your belief about how this problem in your life should be taken care of.  To truly surrender is to let go of the ego’s control; trust in an outcome that you haven’t thought of yet; and allow this all-knowing, loving intelligence to take over and provide the best solution for you. You  must come to the understanding that this invisible power is real, fully conscious of you, and can completely take care of any aspect of the personality. When you do, it will organize your life in a way that is just right for you.”

The last sentence is a tenet of both Reconnective Healing and Affirmative Prayer. In Reconnective Healing, we show up, ready and willing to observe our experience and let the Universe design the healing that’s right for us; in Affirmative Prayer, we declare what we want, and let go of the how. It’s all a part of letting go and surrendering.

The next time you envision, or pray for something you want, – a physical healing, a relationship, or financial abundance, imagine yourself opening to the Universe responding in a way that’s different than you think.

With love, Theresa

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 5 Questions to Transform You Life   Leave a comment

Preamble

I posted these questions on my Facebook page yesterday, but thought they were so important, I wanted to share them with you.

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool) 5 Questions to Transform  Your Life

Dr. Gerry Jampolsky, the founder and psychiatric consultant for The Center of Attitudinal Healing in Tiburon, CA wrote, what I consider to be, several groundbreaking books for healing ourselves and transforming our lives. Among them are Goodbye to Guilt, Love Is Letting Go of Fear, and To Give Is To Recieve, Mini Course for Healing Relationships and Bringing About Peace of Mind***. The later is an 18-day program inspired by A Course in Miracles (ACIM), and provides specific principles and guidelines through the application of daily lessons. The program’s purpose is to help us retrain the mind and recognize we have a choice in how we perceive ourselves, how we perceive others, and how we perceive the world about us. It’s a beautiful program that I have used multiple times and am so happy to resdiscovered it.

There are 18 cards, each containing a lesson taken from ACIM, including: I Am Never Upset For The Reason I Think, I am Determined To See Things Differently and I Can Escape From The World I See By Giving Up Attack Thoughts, with Dr. Jampolsky’s reflections and a practical application on the back of each card.

Jampolsky beckons that we ask ourselves the following five questions, in every situation we encounter, whether intrapersonal (within ourselves) or interpersonal:

  1. Do I choose to experience peace of mind or do I choose to experience conflict?
  2. Do I choose to experience love or fear?
  3. Do I choose to be a love finder or a fault finder?
  4. Do I chose to be a love giver or a love seeker?
  5. Is this communication (verbal or non-verbal) loving to the other person and it is loving to myself?

Using these questions (or any one of them) as a daily practice, or in times of conflict, can shift the results from fear to love.

Are you willing to try them? If so, I invite you to use them during the next week, then drop a line and let me know what you experienced.

**The program was copyrighted in 1979, but should Jampolsky’s course speak to you, there are still a few copies available on Amazon and other retail outlets.

With love,

Theresa

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Two Sides of the Same Coin   Leave a comment

Preamble

There are always two sides to every coin. The side we look at depends on our perspective.

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Two Sides of the Same Coin

Let’s face it. We’ve all experienced disappointment. The plans that fell through, the job interview that didn’t pan out, the relationship that ended (or never began!), the weight regained after working so hard to lose it; the list goes on indefinitely.  The key to our health and happiness doesn’t depend on our experience, but on what we do after the initial disappointment.

It’s important to honor how we feel. The problem is staying stuck and letting the situation wreak havoc on our minds and bodies. The solution?

Take a breath. Acknowledge your feelings. Jump. Shout. Write your feelings out. Do what you need to let the energy out. Then, ask yourself:

“What Opportunities Are Available to Me Now?

Maybe the plans that got cancelled are giving you an opportunity to rest. Perhaps the relationship that ended is providing an opportunity to heal, or the weight you regained is helping you learn how to love and accept yourself, exactly as you are

We may not be able to control the people and situations in our lives, but we do have the ability to own our inner power.

Wishing you a joyful journey!

With love,

Theresa

Message from the Divine:   Leave a comment

Preamble

Do you have expectations of what you should do, be or accomplish? Do they bring you a sense of lightness and joy or create anxiety and stress?

Putting undue pressure on ourselves wreaks havoc on our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

This month’s Message*** is taken from a recent journal entry. I hope you find it helpful

Message from the Divine: Letting Go of Pressure

Pressure does not lead to the answers you seek.
Surrender does.

Trying to force solutions is like attempting to give birth to a baby
Before its time is due.

The answers you seek are right where you are
When you quiet the mind and open your heart to listen.

One moment. One heart beat at a time.

Release your “shoulds” and “must do’s.”
Take a walk or go for a bike ride instead.

Free your mind from thoughts that cloud it
From hearing your inner wisdom.

Lay down the fears that keep you stuck
In a life you no longer desire.

Focus on what brings you joy.

Allow the dreams of your heart to become clear
And guide you to a life of freedom

You deserve the best –
Let yourself receive it.

With Love,

Theresa

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Three Magic Words   Leave a comment

 Preamble

Is there something you’ve been struggling with and have a desire to change? These three little words can set your course aright.

Wednesday’s TNT (Tip ‘N Tool): Three Magic Words

I consider the words “I am willing” to be the elixir vitae that have the power to transform our lives and open doors to opportunities that had hitherto been closed.

These three little words, when spoken in earnest, present us with options and direct our lives. You may be in an abusive relationship, in financial straits, have an addiction or be filled with anger or despair. No matter the grievance, these three little words, spoken from a place of deep conviction, will begin to set your life aright. And should you feel resistance to letting go, being willing to be willing to change is enough medicine to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

If you’re ready to shift from struggle to willingness, try this simple exercise:

Close your eyes and take a breath. Then, complete the following sentence as many times as needed to feel a sense of peace and completion. Be spontaneous and let the answers flow.

I am willing to ________________________.

When complete, relax and follow the signs as they direct you to the next right thing.  It may come in the form of a message from a friend, a book cover, a dream, or a sense of inner guidance that feels certain and right.

As always, I would love to hear your feedback and experience.

With love,

Theresa

Embracing the Light, Plus Live Coaching Event   Leave a comment

 Preamble

This week’s blog continues with the theme of change – those we wish to make, and those aspects of our lives that remind us that there are places within us in need of discovery and growth. Like buds that push through the ground in spring, we have an opportunity to emerge from the darkness of winter, embrace the Light and dream again.

If would like a little daily inspiration, visit my Facebook page, where you’ll find tips and tools, inspirational messages, educational articles, and more. (Tip: Click “Like” at the top of the page to receive the posts.) http://goo.gl/wiQofc

And, if you live in New York, or will be visiting the area, stop by The Red Pipe Cafe, located in Forest Hills, on Saturday, May 23rd for my upcoming Coffee and Coaching Event.  You can find more information about the event in the Announcements section at the end of the blog.

EMBRACING THE LIGHT

“You may have suffered a setback, but don’t sit around in self-pity. Tell your heart to beat again. Tell your heart to love again…Tell your heart to forgive again. Maybe a dream didn’t work out, but nothing will change if you just expect more of the same. Tell your heart to dream again.”               –  Joel Osteen

Making big changes (or even little ones!) can be daunting! Fear of the unknown is a biggie that affects all of us in varying degrees, and at different points in our lives. The question is: are you willing to stay stuck and let it stop you or are you ready to take steps to break free?

We move at our own pace. Some of us are turtles. We move slowly, wear protective shells and retreat when we sense danger or need time to evaluate. Others of us are like gazelles that spring forward and move at lightening speeds. The good news is  how quickly we move doesn’t matter. It’s taking consistent steps toward the lives we desire that make for lasting change.

Fear of uncertainty can tempt me to stop dead in my tracks and cause my imagination to run rampant, creating all kinds of commotion no man (or woman!) in his right mind would want to embark on, let alone make him want to leap into the void!

“What if’s…” are two little words that are enough to halt the cosmos and are huge dream stoppers, when we use them against, rather than for ourselves. Like a child that wakes in the night from a scary dream afraid of monsters, and whose parent turns on the light, the fear disappears when we wake up and discover there’s nothing there but the filters of our imaginations.

What helps each of us turn on the Light is unique to who we are and what fits us best in the moment. For me, it may be reading something inspirational, prayer, a walk in nature, meditation, reciting an affirmation or a call to a support person or friend. But the most helpful of all is surrender – letting go of fears and doubts, confusion and speculation, so I can reconnect to who I am and hear the voice of my intuition. Whatever the tools, we use them to remind us of who we are and that life is ours for the asking.

There may be times we retreat, or feel like we’re moving in reverse, but the opposite is true. We never stop growing or go back in time – like the bulbs that lie dormant in winter and bloom in spring, we are destined to evolve and flourish.

If you would like a tool to help you let go, you may find the following exercise helpful. Use it as written or modify it to fit your personal style. However you use it, may it help you to prosper and grow as you embrace the Light within you.

An Exercise in Letting Go: Releasing Your Fears to the Light

The Universal Light Box

  1. You will need a covered container or box for the exercise; small pieces of paper that can easily fit in the box, or index cards cut in quarters; and a pen. I suggest using a container or box that you find beautiful and pleasing to look at. If desired, you can let your creative juices flow and decorate it.
  2. Next, write each of your fears or concerns on separate pieces of paper, and include the date. Place them in your Light Box. Keep it short. A sentence works perfectly.
  3. You can continue to add concerns or fears to your Light Box as often as needed.
  4. As you put each concern into your Light Box, imagine releasing it to the care of the Universe. You might like to say a few words or a special prayer to help you let go, such as “I now release all of my cares and concerns to the Light,” although it’s not necessary.
  5. Then take a breath, let go and trust that the Universe is working in your favor.
  6. Empty your Light Box every month or so. Remove the concerns that you have released or that have been resolved and return the ones you are still concerned about to your Light Box and continue with the exercise.

As always, I would love to hear your comments!

With love,

Theresa

The Priceless Gift of Joy   Leave a comment

“A happy person is not a person in a certain set
of circumstances; but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.”
– Hugh Downs

We teach what we have to learn.  So says A Course In Miracles. One thing that’s been up for me this week is patience.

On Friday, I shared a few thoughts on my Facebook page about emotional states that can either block or expand us. Among the blocks are:

* Fear

* Doubt

* Worry

Recognize any of these?

Each of these emotional states contract and zap us of priceless joy and energy, and lead us down the path of  impatience, judgment, criticism, anger and resentment (to name a few!) It can be hard to let go of our need to be right, or to prove someone wrong, rather than take responsibility for ourselves. Ouch. Unfortunately, the tighter we hold on to our position, the more painful and contracted we become.

So, I asked myself,  how can I shift my energy into a more satisfying state and came with a list of antonyms:

* Peace

* Trust

* Relaxation

* Confidence

* Acceptance

* (and the biggie!) Surrender!

Each of these states lead to feelings of expansion, joy, fulfillment and pleasure.

As I sat and meditated, like notes on a musical scale, I allowed my attention to move from impatience to a place of surrender, and the shift from tension to a space of expansion was palpable. I am not condoning denying our emotions or feelings – that only digs us in deeper.  What I am saying, however, is that we have a choice for where we focus our attention.

Sometimes this is a minute by minute, day by day, month by month, or year by year process. The more we practice, the easier it becomes to notice when we are out of alignment with ourselves and the faster we can correct it.

In closing, I will leave you with a question from A Course in Miracles:

“Would you rather be right or would you rather be happy?”

The choice is ours to make. What will you choose to focus on today?

Sweet Surrender!   1 comment

Have you ever had a dream, felt inspired, motivated, excited, and then wondered if you made “the right” decision?

This scenario has come up several times for me over the last few weeks as I prepare for a two-month trip to Europe later this month – most of it spent in Italy. Inspiration strikes, excitement reigns, and then voila – doubt creeps in and all that verve flies right out the window – until, that is, I take a deep breath and surrender. Not always easy to do, let alone remember.

I have witnessed the same syndrome as I listen to friends, family, clients, teachers and colleagues – no one seems immune regardless of how intelligent, spiritual or evolved we (think we or they) may be. It’s the human conundrum.

We all want change – it’s what keeps us alive and growing, whether it’s a new job, a new class or ending a relationship that’s no longer working.  We have a vision, take steps to attain it, and then crank on the brakes just when things are starting to heat up!  Thoughts like “Don’t rock the boat,” “Things aren’t that bad,” “I really have it pretty good,” and “What was I thinking?” rattle round inside our brains, knocking our visions clear out of sight. Sound familiar?

The doubt and apprehension we feel are often nothing more than fear of the unknown. A loss of appearing control. The voice of the ego. The part of us that wants to keep things stable, predictable, and stick to the status quo. Why? Because it is familiar. Bah-humbug (wrong season, but you get the picture!) As I ponder my upcoming birthday, I no longer wish, nor can afford, to put my dreams on hold. I have too many to accomplish before I grow old and no longer have the energy or drive to realize them.

At such times, when fear and doubt arise and courage is nowhere to be found,  surrender is a welcome ally. When I am down on my knees, obsessing over some minor detail, it is a sure-fire sign that fear has taken hold. When I remember to relax and take refuge in my Higher Power, I realize that I have been trying to “do it” alone. Hmmmmm… Not always the most helpful or wisest course of action.

Thank God there is an easier way! Time to get the flag out and call on the Angel of Surrender.

Should there be something in your life you are obsessing or distressed about,  here is a wonderful exercise to help you let go. I use the name “God,” but you can use whatever name you choose. I like to do it aloud, as I find it much more powerful, but it can also be done silently.

Exercise in Surrender

1.  Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Be aware of the rise and fall of your stomach as you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

2.  Then repeat either aloud or silently:

“I surrender everything to you, God.”

“I surrender all of my hopes and dreams to you, God.” (Then repeat the sentence, naming each hope or desire until you have exhausted your list. Example: “I surrender all of my hopes and dreams to travel throughout the world as an instrument of your peace to you God.”)

“I surrender all of my relationships to you, God.” (Again, state each relationship by name. For example, I surrender all my relationship with____ to you God.”)

Repeat this process with each situation or mindset in which you experience distress. Work, finances, living situation, emotions, other people, etc. are all par for the course. This is a very powerful and transformative tool; one which I use personally, as well as in my coaching practice. I would love to hear how it works for you, should you decide to try it.

Please feel free to share your experience or post your comments here. And, of course, you are always welcome to email me at Theresa@reconnecting2you.com
