Reducing Holiday Stress: Say “No” to Get to “Yes,” Plus 2 Days Left   Leave a comment

Dear Friends,

Do you find it easy to say “Yes,” to others’ requests, but hard to say “Yes” to yourself?

Do you have a vision or intention for how to spend your holidays, but get hijacked by requests that you have a hard time saying “No” to?

The holidays can be a time of joy and cheer, as well as elicit feelings of stress and pressure.

While we may enjoy all that the holidays offer as we attend parties and other events; decorate our homes; shop for special gifts; visit friends and travel to see relatives and; make our favorite holiday recipes, among other festivities, we can also feel stretched and experience a strain on our time, energy, and financial reserves.

We may rationalize our decision to forgo our own needs, because we don’t want to offend our friends and family members, or risk disapproval from those we love or value.

But saying “No” provides an opportunity for others to grow, and care for themselves, and respect your personal needs.

Here are seven tips, and related questions, to help you gain clarity and take care of yourself this holiday season:

1. Take Inventory

– When are you saying “Yes” when you would rather say “No?”

– Are there particular circumstances or people who present a challenge?

2.  Be Mindful

– How does it feel in your body when you say “Yes” instead of “No?”

– Pay attention to stress and tension.

3.  Is what you fear will happen really true?

– How do you know?

– Is what you’re afraid of happening absolutely true?

– Regardless of what has happened in the past, this is a new moment.

– How can you take care of yourself if what you’re afraid of actually happens?

4.  What is saying “Yes” costing you?

– Are you tired and forfeiting rest?

– Do you have the financial resources to travel or buy expensive presents?

– Do you want to attend the events you’ve been invited to, or go out of obligation and later feel angry or resentful?

– What other costs might there be?

5.  Are you willing to pay the price?

– If you’re answer is “Yes,” do so with awareness. What will the payoffs be?

– If your answer is “No,” what could you do instead” (See #6 below)

6.  Saying “No” takes practice

– If you’re feeling nervous about expressing yourself, you may find it helpful to write down what it is you want to say.

– Then practice with a friend, a coach, or even in the mirror!

7.  Moving Forward

– What qualities do you need to grow inside yourself in order to feel comfortable setting healthy boundaries?

– Reflect on a time you were presented with a challenge and took care of yourself by setting a healthy boundary.

– Notice how the positive sensations feel in your body, and let the feelings flow through you.

– You can also think about how you felt – perhaps you felt a sense of confidence, or felt secure or empowered.

– Let the good feelings soak in as you stay with the experience for five to 20 seconds.

As always, I would love to hear from you.

With love,

Message from the Divine:   Leave a comment

Do you have expectations of what you should do, be or accomplish? Do they bring you a sense of lightness and joy or create anxiety and stress?

Putting undue pressure on ourselves wreaks havoc on our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

This month’s Message*** is taken from a recent journal entry. I hope you find it helpful

Message from the Divine: Letting Go of Pressure

Pressure does not lead to the answers you seek.
Surrender does.

Trying to force solutions is like attempting to give birth to a baby
Before its time is due.

The answers you seek are right where you are
When you quiet the mind and open your heart to listen.

One moment. One heart beat at a time.

Release your “shoulds” and “must do’s.”
Take a walk or go for a bike ride instead.

Free your mind from thoughts that cloud it
From hearing your inner wisdom.

Lay down the fears that keep you stuck
In a life you no longer desire.

Focus on what brings you joy.

Allow the dreams of your heart to become clear
And guide you to a life of freedom

You deserve the best –
Let yourself receive it.

With Love,

Fulfilling Your Personal Legend   Leave a comment

Dear Friends,

I was recently invited to submit an article for Mind Mastery, a forum in the U.K. facilitated by a fellow coach and Gestalt Therapist, whose mission is to promote human development. It was fun to write – one of those pieces that seemed to write itself. I thought you might enjoy it! Here’s a taste, followed by the link:

Fulfilling Your Personal Legend

Life holds many possibilities. When we allow our dreams to take root, and nourish them with our actions, we expand into new horizons and create our personal destinies.

“Our destiny is not mapped out for us by some exterior power; we map it out for ourselves. What we think and do in the present determines what shall happen in the future.” – Christian D. Larson

image of his or her choosing –

You imagination contains a palette of color from which you consciously

and unconsciously create your life experience.

The brush is your vision.

The design is in your heart and soul.

What do you wish to create?

Don’t like the painting?

Don’t cover the canvas with another layer of paint.

Burn it.

Then paint another, more to your liking.

Leave the Harbor!   Leave a comment

Are you moored (bored?) or ready to set sail and leave the safety of the harbor?

Saturday marked my one month anniversary of having set sail for Italy to explore the possibility of moving here. I am having a wonderful experience, however, it’s not always bread and roses. I am traveling solo, and there are time when I experience fear, doubt, and question the sanity of my decision to extend my trip and remain until January.

A couple of weeks ago, I reached out to a friend for support.  In response, she sent me a link to the blog below.  It is with great pleasure that I share it with you, should you need a little inspiration to leave the safety of the harbor.

As for me, in addition to my expedition to Italy, I am exploring the wonders of nature and recently spent a week in Austria. The photo (which you can see by signing up on my mailing list) was taken during my drive across the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Thanks Keith! There are time when we all need a little encouragement and inspiration.

“Leave the Harbor!” is reprinted with permission from Keith Smith, Author & Musician.

“A Ship in the Harbor is Safe, but That’s Not What Ships Are Built For.” – John A. Shedd

Comfort.  Security.  Stability.  Familiar.  We all want our lives to have these things, and yet, we also want to accomplish great things, be extraordinary, experience new and wonderful things.  Sometimes we nearly succeed in convincing ourselves that we can have much, but risk little.  This simply is not true.  Any worthwhile endeavor, any good thing worth the effort it takes to obtain it will have attached to it an element of risk.  Finding your true love is amazing, life changing and euphoric yet there is the risk of being hurt or rejected.  Discovering your purpose in life is indescribably fulfilling, yet there is the risk of being misunderstood or even unappreciated.

Using the analogy contained in the quote at the beginning of this article, your life is like a ship.  You can anchor your life in the harbor, in the familiar surroundings you’ve grown accustomed to, and never risk a change of any kind.  This is safe, right?  The problem is that this is not what the ship (your life) was built for!  The ship (your life) was designed to move, to experience new surroundings, arrive at new destinations and all the while making the journey an adventure!  If a ship never leaves the harbor it will eventually decay to the point of becoming useless because it wasn’t designed to be stagnant.  It was designed to sail out of the harbor, bravely entering the vastness of the open sea and all of its possibilities.  The same is true of your life and mine.

It’s so easy to get “caught up” in life.  The bills, the kids, the job, the house, and somewhere, way down at the bottom of our to-do list, we pencil in our dreams.  You know what?  No one ever gets around to doing the last thing on their to-do list!

If we are to be successful, fulfilled and truly happy we must leave the harbor.  Each of us are unique and have something no one else does.  We’re all human with the same basic needs, and heck, we probably even all share the same universal consciousness, but we are still unique!  I am different than you and you are different than me!  We each have our own viewpoint, interpretation, and thoughts about people and our world.  I read something in a book recently that said that “the world needs what we have to offer.  If it didn’t, we wouldn’t be here!”  If we stay anchored in the harbor, how can we make a difference in the world?

“Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Are there opportunities for you, right now, that perhaps you’ve been putting off or avoiding?  Are there actions you could be taking that you know would set you on the path to success and fulfillment?  Has fear of the unknown, failure or rejection kept you stationary?  Has the effort required to sail your life into the sea of possibility kept you anchored in the harbor?

I am choosing, right this moment, to not allow fear or any form of laziness to stagnate my life.  I’ve hoisted anchor, my ship is moving toward the open sea.  As I stand on the bow, the wind in my face and the salty spray fills the air around me, I am both wonderfully frightened and emboldened for what lies ahead.  It is unknown and full of possibility.  I embrace the adventure of the journey as much as I will embrace my destination.

I hope to see you out there…..

“He Who is Brave is Free.” – Seneca

Now is the Time

“We are in a civil rights movement of the soul.” – Neale Diamond Walsch

Okay, maybe I am a slow learner, but I have finally begun to understand the meaning of those four little words: “Now is the Time.”

It began when I was in Torino Italy over two years for a month-long visit (which unexpectedly turned into four!)

I had gone to Torino to visit friends and explore the possibility of living there. Yes, a big, bold leap. I had spent four days in Torino the previous year, and wanted to explore it further. But before I made the move there were several things I wanted to know: Could I make a living with my healing and coaching practice when I had limited Italian language skills? Would I make friends? Would I be content? Would there be enough to do? (After all, I spent 10 years living in New York City, and Torino was much smaller.)

I arrived the weekend of the Torino Jazz Festival. What a treat, indeed! I made friends that very day with a fellow Reconnective Healing Practitioner, and began a wonderful four-month journey. Everything was flow smoothly. I had seven Reconnective Healing clients within the space of a month (two who brought translators), was making friends, going to dances, learning to cook, touring the countryside, and having  a ball. Aside from a brief period of anxiety when deciding whether to extend my trip, and if so, where I wold stay, I felt in complete harmony and alignment with life, and was living in the flow.

To add another dimension (literally!) one night, while in a deep sleep, I had a visitation by  none other than the Fab Four. There they were.  John. Paul. George and Ringo, performing life in concert, just for me. Not only did they gift me with a private show, they created the lyrics and music to an original composition in my honor. The title? “Now’s the Time.” (OMG. I can see them as clearly as they appeared to me over two years ago, dressed in black suits, thin ties, and  “moppy” hair. Like they looked when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show! Do you remember?)

Although I loved my time in Torino, and the people I met, I wasn’t 100% sure that it was ‘my landing spot.” I was also concerned about the high tax rate (up to 70% for business owners!) the state of the economy, the bureaucracy, and other issues, and was at odds about where in the world to live, as it was never my intention to remain in New York permanently. And, as I work remotely, through Skype and telephone, I have the ability to live and work anywhere.

Since I returned to the U.S. “Now is the Time” has appeared everywhere: in magazine articles, on billboards, in train station advertisements, in books, on radio broadcasts, and as book titles. And although the Beatles haven’t, as yet, performed an encore since that original composition, I have even seen the message in my dreams. “Now is the Time” has been following me everywhere.

Today was the capper. Someone, who I’ll call John, sang an original composition at my spiritual center. John had gone through his own dark night in search of a dream he wasn’t so sure would occur. As with all dreams, we go through periods of doubt, are tempted to hold back, and are sometimes challenged to believe that our dreams will actually come true. The song he sang? You’ve got it! “Now’s the Time.” (How much more confirmation does one need?) John happily announced that he was accepted to the college of his choice and will going to Spain in the fall to fulfill his dream of studying music. How he will cover the expenses is yet to be revealed, but he is confident this too shall come to pass, as he moves forward on his path.

As for me, here are a free things I have discovered over the last few weeks about what “Now is the Time,” means to me:

* For the last several years, I’ve been dreaming of taking an extended trip to Washington State to visit my son. When? Now’s the time! I will be leaving in July for month-long visit.

* I’ve had dreams of returning to Italy, but wasn’t sure how, where or when. After consulting with two experts in relocation astrology, I’ve decided to back and explore several new areas. When? Now’s the time! I will be leaving in September for a visit.

Most importantly, I have come to realize that now is the time. It’s the only time there is. It’s all we’ve got. As Robert F. Kennedy asked: “If not now, when?”

What prompted the exploration of moving to Italy in the first place began when I asked myself the question: “When lying on my deathbed, what would I regret not having done?” The answer? Not fulfilling my childhood dreams to travel and live outside of the U.S., and not creating enough time to mend a relationship with my adult son.

We all have dreams. We are all tempted, on occasion to let the fear of uncertainty hold us back. What are you waiting for? Is now your time?

If you are ready to take the next step in your life, it would be a joy and a privilege to work with you. To learn more, or to schedule a free-30 minute consultation to explore how we might work together, please email

10 Steps to Increase Your Prosperity   Leave a comment

Today is a day of celebration, as it marks my 61st birthday! There was a time in my life when I felt a need to keep my age secret (a conditioned response based on cultural values), but why hide it? I feel great, am pursuing my dreams, and have a wealth of energy.

My dreams are coming true! Three of my poems were just selected for a Poetry Magazine, and I am planning my next trip to Italy!

If you have dreams you’re longing to pursue, or would like to discover what they are, then please join me on April 26 for a free teleseminar, called…

Reclaim Your Dreams: Create More Time to Do the Things You Love!

I look forward to seeing you there!

“There were times my pants were so thin I could sit on a dime
and tell if it were heads or tails.”

– Spencer Tracy

What a great reminder! Although there was a time in his life when he struggled financially, Spencer Tracy held on to his dreams and went on to become an Academy Award winning actor, known for his roles in Boys Town, Inherit the Wind, and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, among others. If Spencer Tracy can do it so can we! And chances are, we have thicker pants than he did!

Here are 10 Steps to Increase Your Prosperity. I can’t say I practice them all, all of the time, but it’s progress, not perfection. What I do know is that each step, each action, each intention brings us that much closer to demonstrating prosperity – in all of our affairs – not just financially, but in our relationships, our health, our creative expression, our work and through the dreams we wish to fulfill.

Try them out. Experiment. Not for a day or a week, but make them a part of your daily practice. You may see immediate results and/or increase your prosperity over time. While I don’t know what your process will be, what I do know is that as we expand our prosperity consciousness,  there is a corresponding law that must respond.  Like gravity, it is a law of nature.

Here they are. As always, I would love to hear about your experience!

10 Steps to Increase Your Prosperity

1)  Prosperity is everywhere. The more we recognize it, the more we will see and experience it.
2)  The more we broaden our definition of prosperity, the richer our lives will become.
3)  The only thing we lack in experiencing greater prosperity is the imagination and courage to
create our lives as we desire them to be.
4)  Say “no” to negativity. Let your mind be focused on thoughts of well-being.
5)  Take time everyday to recognize and acknowledge what’s beautiful.
6)  Giving enhances our sense of abundance. To increase your prosperity, tithe your time,
talents and treasure.
7)  Treat yourself to something that makes you feel cherished and special at least
once a week.
8)  When in doubt “don’t.” Take a break and do something else instead. Trust that what you
need to know or do will reveal itself to you at the proper time.
9)  Have a grateful heart. Write down five things that you are grateful for every day. What you
appreciate appreciates.
10) Live your life authentically. Be yourself, not who someone else wishes you to be.

If you have dreams you would like to fulfill or renew, then I please join me on April 26th for a free teleseminar called…
